Omega-3 EPA is a very high
quality source of the polyunsaturated
fats needed for so many health
benefits. The body uses omega
3 fatty acids as one of the primary components of cell
membranes and may be beneficial to the structural system, heart health and to the
skin. It is not manufactured by the body and needs to be obtained from certain
fish and some other foods such
as flax seed oil and evening
primrose oil. The oils in Omega-3
EPA are not derived from fish
livers but come from the flesh
of the fish.
There are 4 types of fat
that the body obtains from food.
Polyunsaturated fats, cholesterol,
saturated fat, and monounsaturated
fat. Most people obtain plenty
of the last three but little
of the first which is so important
to good health. If a person
is eating good amounts of oily
cold-water fish such as tuna,
salmon, and mackerel they will
be getting enough of the polyunsaturated
fats. There are some however
who are not keen on eating fish
at all, or they are not eating
the right sort. Omega 3 EPA
is a good addition to the diet
in these cases.
Omega 6 rich foods include
such items as cereals, whole-grain
bread, baked goods, fried foods
and margarine amongst others.
It is very available and easy
to obtain but it can cause an
imbalance. NSP's omega 3 helps
to create a balance.
